An Encounter that was “Meant To Be”
May 16, 2018
I just wanted to forward you this story from one of our Care Coordinators in Texas. I thought this was such a cool story to share and a perfect example of why we do what we do here at CleanSlate! Here is the anecdote in her own words:
On Wednesday, May 9th, while passing out “This card found you for a reason” at our local Kroger, I approached a woman in her mid 50’s and asked if she knew anyone suffering from an opioid or alcohol addiction. The woman looked at me, puzzled, and said, “Who are you?”
After explaining what CleanSlate is and the role I play as a Care Coordinator, the woman started to tell me her story. As it turned out, she was recently out of an inpatient rehabilitation center for alcohol addiction and was getting ready to walk into Kroger to purchase wine. I continued to talk with her about CleanSlate’s services and asked if she would be willing to come in for an appointment the next day. She agreed.
I then requested her name and phone number and told her if I didn?t see her in the morning, I would give her a call. After not showing for the morning appointment, I called her to see how she was doing. She didn?t answer.
I then called her the next morning. She answered and sounded upset. She said she had a “really rough night” and was scared to come in. I assured her that CleanSlate is a safe place to focus on her recovery and encouraged her to make the first step to meet with us that morning. She agreed, and her husband brought her in right away.
This woman has been our patient since and is compliant with the program. She communicated that our meeting was “meant to be” and is extremely grateful for CleanSlate.
