Thank you to Indianapolis North Center Manager, Angela Oakley for sharing this story about going above and beyond for our patients.
“Each quarter, the staff at Indianapolis North Meridian celebrates our patients by hosting a patient appreciation event. Our first attempt at hosting such an event was met with little response. In true warrior fashion, the staff acted as if the house was full even though only two patients attended with one of them bringing their mother.
The second event was held around the holidays. Our attendance dramatically increased to fifteen. Those who attended bragged to others about the great food and the good time they had and encouraged more to attend the next event.
On March 20th, we hosted our third event. Once again, the participation increased with a little more than twenty-five in attendance. We always encourage our patients to invite their support system to enjoy the evening with us as well.
We start our evening by serving our patients a meal, followed by fellowship, a brief circle discussion and ending with additional time to chat with one another.
Dr. James Meacham, Center Medical Director, leads the group discussion. He talks about topics that challenge our patients and their support system daily. All are encouraged to participate in the discussion. Some will ask questions and others will offer advice while some will share a story that is relevant to the topic.
Even though we plan specific topics to start the conversation, the discussion will often take a turn when the patient brings up a topic they feel is important to them. The staff and patients, alike, enjoy these events as it allows us to get to know each other on a personal level outside of the medical arena.” – Angela Oakley, Center Manager Indianapolis North, IN
