National Give Something Away Day – July 15th
Jul 2, 2019
On numerous occasions we have heard and read stories of our Warriors for Hope who volunteer in their extra time, give to charitable organizations, or go the extra mile for our patients in our care. We are beyond fortunate to have so many passionate and dedicated individuals who have made it their life’s purpose in helping serve others.
In fact, we have heard from our Warriors on several different occasions that they would like to do more in their communities, and this July 15th is a perfect opportunity to give back. Monday, July 15th marks “National Give Something Away” day and is a time to collect various items, clothing, food, body care items, etc. and donate to a local charity.
In the United States, giving is on the rise. According to Giving USA, giving rose in all nine major categories in 2016 – religion; education; human services; giving to foundations; health, public-society benefit; arts; culture and humanities; international affairs; and environment and animals.
We are encouraging all of our teams to take this opportunity and collect items over the coming weeks to donate to a local charity or charities of your choice. For those of you working in a center, we also encourage getting our patients involved to “give away” as part of their healing process, or get them involved by asking if they know of any charities in the area.
Ideas for donations:
- Non-perishable items for food pantries
- Clothing for local shelters, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.
- Hygiene items for shelters
- Blankets or pet food for local animal shelters
- Books for a local library
- School supplies
- Or, think outside the box and donate some of your time to a charitable organization
