A $1 Billion Crisis in Floyd County, Indiana Spurs CleanSlate to Open New Addiction Treatment Center
Dec 26, 2018
CleanSlate Centers, a national leader in outpatient addiction medicine, continues its expansion in Indiana with the opening of a medication-assisted treatment center in New Albany. Located at 811 Northgate Blvd., the New Albany center opened its doors to patients last week.
CleanSlate’s decision to open a center in the southern part of Indiana was driven by the outpouring of patients who were traveling across state lines to receive treatment at the company’s center in Louisville, Kentucky. The New Albany center sits on the opposite side of the Ohio River from CleanSlate’s Louisville center.
“Even though CleanSlate has many centers throughout Indiana, we still had a huge number of patients who were leaving the state to see us in Kentucky,” said Rachael Thompson, CleanSlate’s Regional Director of Operations for Indiana and Kentucky. “We recognized an urgent need to expand access to responsible, affordable treatment for the people of Southern Indiana.”
This marks CleanSlate’s fourteenth center in Indiana and its fifty-fourth across the country. The company’s program of care includes appropriate medication-assisted treatment (MAT) prescribed by licensed medical providers, as well as clear accountability, supportive counseling, and care coordination. CleanSlate participates in-network with most Medicaid and commercial providers in the state of Indiana so that patients can be treated with minimal or no financial burden.
“The overwhelming demand for our services speaks to the lack of readily available treatment providers in the area who will accept insurance and Medicaid,” said Anthony Belott, Chief Development Officer for CleanSlate. “When treatment isn’t affordable, it isn’t accessible. CleanSlate has built its entire model of care on the premise that anyone who reaches out for help deserves high-quality treatment for his disease.”
Floyd County amongst hardest hit in state
New Albany is a part of Floyd County, which ranks amongst the top 20 of all Indiana counties for financial damage suffered from the opioid epidemic. A recent study by Indiana University found that Floyd County lost $1 billion between 2003 and 2017. When county expenses were adjusted for population in the study, Floyd County jumped to fifth place for economic damage amongst all Indiana counties.
The economic impact of the opioid epidemic in Floyd County included factors such as lost productivity, underemployed workers, or workers who died from overdoses, all of which reduces revenues for local companies. Losses were further calculated from the strain on the court systems, police departments and hospitals. With more costs diverted to support the criminal justice system and other services, projects such as new roads and health department efforts are left to languish.
CleanSlate’s care for patients throughout the lifecycle of their recovery, including ongoing maintenance, can address the challenges faced by the underserved populations of Floyd County and other parts of Southern Indiana.

We’re so excited to bring our critical treatment services to Southern Indiana and help people rebuild their lives.”
